Alaha wanted to combine her love of history of science with the immediacy of exploring students' immediate surroundings. She settled on Urban Foraging and looking at what makes the organisms edible, what aspects of their structures make it beneficial for us to eat? She also introduced the concept of of hunter-gatherers and their lifestyles and encouraged students to put themselves in the place of the hunter-gatherer mindset- what details in these plants we find allow you to distinguish it as an edible plant?
