We wanted to see how the polluted East River water affects the organisms that inhabit the body of water. The model organism we chose to use is an emerald crab because we couldn’t get a hold of any crab species that actually live in the river. We had initially set up 4 different tanks with east river water, but we changed it after the crabs died, so in our next attempt we added a holding tank with one of them being a holding tank to acclimate the emerald crabs into their environment and we also replaced the east river water with our own homemade salt water in each tank. We managed to collect a lot of data on the change in pH and KH (carbonate hardness) over a period of roughly 2 months, but this second attempt also ended in the deaths of the crabs. Ultimately, our experiment became an experiment about how to properly take care of an aquatic organism due to our trial and error to further help with future experimental setup.
